You Can't Skip This Step: Detoxing Your Dreads!

Hey there, queens! So you've taken the plunge and snagged some fierce Wildcrafted Beauty synthetic dreads!

Welcome to the club!

But before you rock those bad boys on the front lines (we see you, amazing nurses and healthcare heroes!), let's talk about giving them a little TLC (Tender, Love & Care)

Detoxing your synthetic dreads is quick, simple, and absolutely worth it! In fact, you can get it done in under an hour—just enough time to pop in your favorite podcast or audiobook and make it a little self-care moment.

But why is this step non-negotiable? Imagine bringing home a brand-new set of sheets. You wouldn’t just throw them on your bed without washing them first, right? The same goes for your synthetic dreads. Fresh from the factory, they may carry residual chemicals from the manufacturing process—including a layer of flame-resistant spray. That’s not something you want near your scalp!

A proper detox ensures your dreads are clean, scalp-friendly, and balanced for long-term comfort. Think of it as giving your dreads a fresh start—one that keeps your scalp happy, itch-free, and in perfect harmony with your natural hair. Because when you treat your dreads with care from day one, they’ll reward you by looking and feeling their best for weeks to come!

Let’s dive into the how and why of detoxing, so you can enjoy gorgeous, irritation-free dreadlocks with confidence.

Why Detox?

Your scalp has a natural pH balance, and introducing synthetic dreads can throw it off—especially since many come coated with a layer of flame-resistant spray. And let’s be real, that’s the last thing you want lingering near your hair and skin!

That’s where detoxing works its magic. This simple step helps strip away any unwanted residues, bringing everything back into balance so your scalp stays happy, comfortable, and irritation-free. Think of it as a little reset for both your dreads and your skin—keeping everything fresh, clean, and healthy as ever!

Detoxing Made Simple (Seriously, It Is!)

Good news, boss ladies! Detoxing your new dreads is as easy as pie, it is much easier actually. Here's what you'll need:

  1. Your brand new Wildcrafted Beauty dreadlocks
  2. One pouch of dread tox which is usually included with your order (we've got you covered!)
  3. A big bowl (think mixing a big batch of cookies!.. but bigger)
  4. Warm or hot tap water (not boiling, we don't want melty dreads!)
  5. Gloves (safety first, always!) You don’t want those chemicals to touch your skin while rinsing.

How To Detox: Shake, Soak, Slay!

  1. Shake it Off: Give that Dreadtox pouch bag a good ol' shake to activate its magic!
  2. Fill It Up: Pour the entire detox solution into your bowl. Don't worry if you see some texture, that's just the solution being activated!
  3. Warm Welcome: Add a cup of r hot tap water to the bowl. Make sure it’s not too hot!
  4. Dreads Take a Dip: Gently lower your new dreads to the detox bath while topping it off with more water until the dreads are completely submerged, and ready to rest.
  5. Soak City: Let your dreads chill in the detox solution for a cool hour while you do your own little “happy dance” as you patiently await your dreads to be prepped!
  6. Glove Up!: Handle with Care! Make sure you’re wearing gloves throughout the whole process so that your skin does not get irritated… we wouldn’t want that, would we?
  7. Rinse Away! Rinse your dreads 3-4 times with warm water to get all the DreadTox and chemicals off from them
  8. And that's it! After their detox spa day, your synthetic dreads will be ready to slay the world (or at least your work shift) with confidence, and character!

Drying Up for Dazzling Results:

Once your detox is done, it's time to dry your dreads and get them ready for their big debut! Lay them flat on a clean towel and gently pat them down with another towel to absorb excess moisture. If patience isn’t your strong suit (we get it—you’re excited!), here’s the good news: Our WB synthetic dreads are made from high-quality fibers, so you can speed up the process with a blow dryer or a fan. No long waits necessary!

Bonus Tip: You can also do this detox between installs to keep your dreads fresh, clean, and pH-balanced for future wear. A little extra care now means even more comfortable, longer-lasting dreads later!
