4 Phases of Wavy Dreads Maturing: What to expect!
Whether you have just purchased your first set of wavy Wildcrafted Beauty dreadlocks or are just curious about the magical adventure they bring, did you know that these dreads will go through an adventure of their own?
I have heard it said many times “Those don’t look like dreads” when someone sees a brand-new set of our wavy locks.
And it’s true! They don’t look like fully dreaded hair…at first.
Our double-ended braid in dreadlock extensions go through 4 phases where they begin as loose, luscious wavy hair, but over time they go through a process to become fully dreaded wavy dreadlocks.
How did the 4 Dreadlock Phases come to be?
When I first started creating content on my wavy dreadlocks, I got TONS of questions on the process they go through. Dozens of women had gotten dreads just like mine (this was before I even had my own line of dreadlocks) but they often responded with comments asking why their dreads were frizzy or tangled or even using words like “a mess”.
As I saw these comments and began to teach women how to most easily care for their dreads by using products like our Crown Nectar, I decided it was time to craft language around what they are experiencing. Because if there is one thing I have learned in life, it’s that defining clear language around an experience is how people best understand one another.
So after wearing several new sets of our long wavy dreads, I came to the conclusion that Wavy Synthetic Dreadlock Extensions go through 4 distinct phases.
What are the 4 Phases of Wavy, Braid in Dreadlock Extensions?
Phase 1: The Mermaid Phase: lasts 1-2 weeks
In this phase, your dreadlocks start with loose, curly hair that exudes a flowing and captivating mermaid-like beauty. Delight in the softness and smoothness of your locks, inviting you to run your fingers through them. To assist in the locking process, we recommend using Crown Nectar twice daily. While it won't prevent all tangling, it will help to lock the dreadlocks together. Embrace the beauty of your individual waves while you nurture the new journey they are about to embark on.
Phase 2: Whispering Tangles: lasts 3-4 weeks
As your dreadlocks continue their enchanting transformation, they enter the phase of Whispering Tangles. Softness still lingers, but the texture begins to evolve into a grain-like pattern, adding depth and character. Your locks quietly weave intricate knots throughout the day, inviting you to unravel their secrets. Crown Nectar becomes your trusted companion, aiding in the prevention of tangling. Enjoy the dance of these whispering tangles, and gently separate each lock daily to maintain their individuality.
Phase 3: Freeform Tangles: lasts 6-8 weeks
As your dreadlocks continue their enchanting transformation, they enter the phase of Whispering Tangles. Softness still lingers, but the texture begins to evolve into a grain-like pattern, adding depth and character. Your locks quietly weave intricate knots throughout the day, inviting you to unravel their secrets. Crown Nectar becomes your trusted companion, aiding in the prevention of tangling. Enjoy the dance of these whispering tangles, and gently separate each lock daily to maintain their individuality.
Phase 4: Wildcrafted Dreads: The Final Phase
Congratulations, Wild Woman! You have arrived at the pinnacle of your dreadlock journey. Your dreadlocks have fully transformed into whimsical waves of beauty. They no longer resemble loose hair but have evolved into wavy dreadlocks, exuding confidence and grace. Tangles become rare, and the texture solidifies, creating a stunning and effortless look. To enhance the softness and flexibility of your Wild Woman Dreads, continue using Crown Nectar. Its moisturizing properties will infuse strength and vitality into your locks, ensuring they remain resilient and lustrous journey.
But now you may be thinking “What about the Shorties Berlin? Do they go through the same process?”.
While the daily care recommendations are the same, our line of short dreadlocks don’t go through the exact same process as our long dreadlocks. They tend to hang out somewhere between the first and second phase of maturing. If you are looking for a set of dreadlocks that are a little easier in terms of daily care, and that keep the wavy hair look, then shorties are for you girl!
