How Many Dreadlock Bundles Do I Need?

Whatever sparked your interest, you’re now ready to invest in a new look and completely transform your appearance. But one big question remains: How many bundles do you need?

We know you’re a woman who likes her options! That’s why we offer two of them for your synthetic dreadlocks: Shorties and Longs. Here’s a quick overview to help you decide which might be best for you:
Shorties: You won’t find these anywhere else! These weigh only about 8oz and are PERFECT if you’re new to dreadlocks or have thinning hair, neck soreness, or headaches. They offer a lighter weight, making them a great choice to ease into the look and feel of dreadlocks. Plus, because they are lighter, you can comfortably add more for a fuller look if desired.
Shorties are perfect if you want to dip your toes into the world of dreadlocks before diving into the longer lengths. It’s like starting with a mini version of the look to test the waters before going all-in!
Longs: These dreadlocks weigh about 13-16oz and provide a more dramatic, fuller appearance. They are great for those who are comfortable with the weight and ready to make a bold statement!
Many women enjoy alternating between Shorties and Longs based on their lifestyle or personal preferences. Whether you want the ease of Shorties or the impact of Longs, we’ve got both of ‘em for you!
For a Full Look
To achieve a confident, full head of synthetic dreadlocks,10 to 13 of the long dreads and 10 to 15 bundles of the short ones.This amount gives you a thick, evenly distributed look that's both stylish and natural.
Undercut Hairstyles
If you have an undercut—where a portion of your hair is shaved or cut very short—you'll need a bit less. 10 to 11 bundles will do the trick, providing fullness where it counts while accommodating the shaved areas.
One Shaved Side
For those with one side of their head shaved, aim for 10 to 12 bundles. This range lets you adjust based on your preferences and the extent of the shaved area, ensuring the hair on the unshaved side remains wonderfully full.
For Brittle or Alopecia-like Hair
If you have brittle hair or conditions like alopecia, it's important to keep things light to avoid tugging and pulling, that’s why our short dreads are the perfect choice here! They will allow you to go for a full look with 11-12 bundles without having too much pressure on your more fragile hair. If you really want to start with the longs , we recommend you start with 9 bundles and see how they feel. If they’re comfortable and you want a bit more volume, you can always add a few more bundles later on!
If you deal with headaches or neck pain the shorties are a great place to start for you too. Because they are so light it’s likely you won’t feel any added pressure on your head or neck from the weight of them. If the longs are more your jam, start with 9 bundles and be sure that two thirds of the dreads are on the top of your head so that you don’t have too much weight pulling on you from the back.
